Vermilion Records is a student-run record label at the QUT Kelvin Grove campus. Vermilion’s goal is to platform local and emerging artists allowing them to be heard and mentored by industry professionals. For final-year students, Vermilion Records provides them with industry experience and knowledge, right before they graduate and potentially seek positions within the industry.
Vermilion boasts an eclectic range of talent spanning all genres, and This year is no exception with Duck Egg Blue, April Darling, George Swan, Dayoff, Hicktown Barnaby, Maddison Kate, Safety Hazzard, VVILDFlOVVER and Sundowner, all joining the label in 2022.
Vermilion Records also has an initiative called Vermilion High, where the best up-and-coming talent from high schools in Southeast Queensland join the label for a short project. Aspiring musicians submit a demo to Vermilion, with the winners getting the opportunity to record their new original track and be featured on an album and in a showcase gig on October 5th at La Boite Theatre
Vermilion Records also host free on-campus gigs with Mornings @ Merlo happening fortnightly on Wednesdays at the La Boite Espresso Bar from 10 am-12 pm as well as Sunset Sounds happening every Thursday fortnight at the La Boite forecourt from 4 pm-6 pm.
